OIDI Leads QAA-Funded Collaborative Enhancement Project to Support AI Literacy and Authentic Assessment in Higher Education

A Collaborative Enhancement Project (CEP) led by Dr. Linda Marron, Academic Head of HE Programmes at Oxford International Digital Institute (OIDI), has been awarded funding from the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). The QAA-funded CEP has been designed to support AI literacy and authentic assessment in higher education.
The project brings together a network of universities and institutions to explore how AI might be used in teaching, learning, and assessment for both staff and students, with a focus on building confidence and critical understanding.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across the higher education sector, the project aims to create spaces for shared inquiry and professional dialogue around AI and assessment. Through workshops, case studies and collective reflection, participating institutions will examine current practices, identify opportunities, and develop practical insights into how AI might enhance or challenge existing approaches to teaching, learning and assessment, whilst maintaining ethical awareness and academic integrity.
The project will deliver a range of practical outputs designed to support meaningful engagement with AI and authentic assessment across the sector. These include the development of an interactive AI Literacy Development Tool, adaptable teaching materials, and scalable frameworks for both AI literacy and authentic assessment. Collaborative webinars and networking opportunities will further enable shared learning, while an evaluative report will capture findings, examples of effective practice, and recommendations for wider adoption across the higher education institutions and QAA member institutions.
“This project is an opportunity to explore, together, what AI could mean for teaching, learning, and assessment. It’s not about replacing what we do but rethinking how we can use new tools in ways that are ethical, responsible and uphold academic integrity.”
Dr. Linda Marron, Academic Head HE at OIDI
"The role of AI in education, industry and society is of course a crucial and timely concern, and we at QAA are pleased to be working with partners across higher education to support a number of important projects in this key area. We continue to produce, promote and curate guidance and resources supporting the HE sector's approaches to AI, and we very much look forward to working to support OIDI and its partners in the development of this Collaborative Enhancement Project."
Dr. Max Jaede, Membership Quality Specialist at QAA
“We are thrilled to embark on this project with QAA and collaborators across 20 universities and institutions. AI is front of mind in the Higher Education sector, as we grapple to understand its role across teaching, learning, research and assessment. A project like this aims to explore what that new world could look like, with practical insights delivered in collaboration with some of the greatest minds in higher education.”
