University of Southampton has officially opened its new campus in India, marking an important milestone for international higher education and the relationship between the UK and India.
Located in Gurugram, Haryana, University of Southampton Delhi is the first comprehensive international university campus to open in India under University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations. Oxford International Education Group is proud to be supporting the university in delivering this ambitious project.
The launch follows the University of Southampton becoming the first international institution to receive a UGC licence to establish a campus under the country’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The policy seeks to expand access to high-quality education and prepare graduates for an increasingly global workplace.
Bringing a world-class education closer to home
The new campus enables students to earn the same internationally recognised University of Southampton degree awarded in the UK, while completing their studies in India.
Its initial undergraduate and postgraduate programmes cover Business Management, Accounting and Finance, Computer Science, Economics, Finance and International Management. The first cohort will begin their studies in August 2025.
The University plans to expand the campus over the coming decade, with the aim of welcoming up to 5,000 students each year by 2035.
Students will study in a modern environment featuring a dedicated student hub, library and IT laboratories. The campus’s location in Gurugram also places students close to major employers and one of India’s most important centres for business, technology and innovation.
Connections with organisations including Deloitte India, Comviva and Investec will provide access to internships and graduate placement opportunities, helping students translate their academic learning into practical workplace experience.

The opening of University of Southampton Delhi reflects the growing demand for internationally recognised education that students can access closer to home.
By combining the university’s teaching and research expertise with strong links to industry, the campus will help students develop the knowledge, experience and international outlook needed to succeed in a rapidly changing global economy.
It will also create new opportunities for research collaboration, innovation and knowledge exchange between the UK and India. These connections will support India’s continued development as a centre for education and enterprise while strengthening the wider partnership between the two countries.
